Dear Families
Holy Week
This Sunday commemorates Palm Sunday and the beginning of Holy Week, a very special and sacred time in the Church year. Throughout next week, we remember the last moments of Jesus’ life on earth. As a school, we will focus particularly on the Stations of the Cross which have been filmed by our Year 6 students and will be available for all classes across the school to explore and reflect on Christs passion.
Year 6 Camp
This week our Year 6 students have been fortunate to participate in their scheduled camp to Hindmarsh Island. The focus of this camp has been Outdoor Education with the children camping in tents, as well as enjoying activities including surfing, kayaking, billy cart construction, a survival challenge and a Coorong cultural tour. Well done to all the students involved and for the staff who assisted on the camp - Lauren Breeding, Sylvia Roussos, Paul O’Dea, Ethan Miller and Jack Sires.
Annual General Meeting
Thank you to those who were able to be present online at the Annual General Meeting. The reports presented at the meeting are now available online via our school website.
We are very grateful to you, our families for your support during the past year. It has been challenging on several fronts, and whilst we have all at different times been disappointed with the restrictions placed on us, we do thank you for your positive messages of support.
Winter Uniform
A reminder that the Winter Uniform is to be worn from the beginning of Term 2.
Children in Years R-2 continue to wear the Sports Uniform. However, as the weather cools the children can wear the school sports jacket and tracksuit pants.
Students in Years 3-6 are to wear the winter formal uniform when they are not involved in activities that require the sports uniform. Please find the formal uniform requirements outlined below.
Girls
- Tartan Skirt
- Navy Trousers or shorts
- Long Sleeved Blue Shirt
- School Navy Blue Jumper or Sports Jacket
- White crew socks or navy tights
- Black School Shoes
Boys
- Navy Shorts
- Grey Trousers
- Long Sleeved Blue Shirt
- School Navy Blue Jumper or Sports Jacket

- Black School Shoes
As this is the final newsletter for this term, we would like to thank everyone for their support during this interesting and challenging term.
Blessings
The Leadership Team
Todd LaForgia, Jo Livingstone, Amanda Razon & Michael Cimarosti
Project Compassion
We continue to follow along the journey of the communities which Project Compassion has touched. This week we hear of Shaniella’s story from the Solomon Islands where with our support she is able to complete her vocational training for hospitality and tourism. Not only is the support of Project Compassion empowering her to pursue her studies but also provide her community with access to clean drinking water.
In relation to the good works of Caritas’ Project Compassion, we have a small group of Year 2 students who have eagerly initiated a fundraiser where all proceeds will go to Project Compassion. The fundraiser will be ‘guess how many eggs in the jar’ and will be held during recess and lunch in Week 11 for students to guess the amount. Each guess costs 50c and the winner will be announced at the Easter raffle in Week 11.
Students will also be bringing in a gold coin donation on Monday 11th April to make a set of Good Deed Beads that will go towards Project Compassion. The set of beads will serve as a reminder and help them to keep count of the number of good deeds they do each day.
Sacrament of Reconciliation
The children and families who will be receiving the Sacraments of Reconciliation, Confirmation and Holy Communion have been meeting and preparing over the past month. The children will be undertaking their first experience of Reconciliation next term, Week 2 on Thursday 12th May at 7pm. Please continue to keep the children and their families in your prayers as the continue to embark on this journey.

Our Year 5 students have been joining us each week in Playgroup. They have been having a wonderful time with bubble chasey, block building, reading stories and getting creative at the craft table. Our little ones have made the most of having new friends to play with, there are lots of smiles and giggles by the big and little children.
This week we will be starting our Easter craft and we will be coming together for an end of term morning tea next week.
Playgroup will not operate during the school holidays and will resume on Wednesday 4th May. We hope you have a lovely break and look forward to seeing you all again soon.
Playgroup runs each Wednesday during term from 9am – 10.30am. Remember you can always see what we are up to by visiting and liking our Facebook page - Play to Grow at St Johns Playgroup.

St John the Baptist School provides a safe environment for all while valuing the partnership between school and home.
As a Catholic community, we welcome and value volunteers. To be able to volunteer, and/or attend at other times throughout the school year, we ask that you hold a current Catholic Police Check (parents/caregivers attending excursions, reading in class, helping in class, attending community events), a current Responding to Risks of Harm, Abuse and Neglect in Education and Care for Volunteers certificate, have completed the volunteers application package and your COVID vaccination certificate.
A Catholic Police Check for volunteers is free for our current parents and caregivers. Application Forms are available in our school office.
This process ensures we maintain a child safe environment. To avoid disappointment, we encourage you to apply for a Catholic Police Check through the school office as soon as possible.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us at the school office on 8218 3300.
