Dear Families,

Staffing News
We are delighted to announce that Mr Toby Plate has joined our school as the new mid-year Reception teacher. Toby is familiar with our school and to our children, and we are confident that he will make a significant contribution to the class and our school community.
Please join us in welcoming Toby to our school.
Instrumental Tutor
We regret to inform the school community that our piano tutor, Christine, has had to unexpectedly finish her time with us. We are grateful for the dedication and passion she brought to her teaching over 14 years at our school, and she will be greatly missed. We are currently in the process of searching for a replacement and will keep you updated on our progress. Thank you for your understanding and support during this transition.

The Year 6 Leadership roles are undertaken across the following areas of responsibility:

- Wellbeing
- News and Communication
Sunsmart School
We are very pleased to inform you that the school has been recognised as Sunsmart by the Cancer Council of SA. This follows a review of our Sunsmart Guidelines. The main change to practice at the school relates to the wearing of hats. This will occur when the UV levels are 3 and above- not with the term changeover. Please refer to the school website to view our Sunsmart Guidelines or click here.
Car Park Care
When accessing the car parks at peak times, it is essential to be careful and mindful of others. This means driving slowly, being aware of pedestrians, and being patient. By doing so, we can create a safer environment for our students, staff, and visitors. Let's all work together to make our school a safe place for everyone. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.
Winter Uniform
A reminder that the Winter Uniform is to be worn from the beginning of Term 2.

Sacramental Program
The first session for the Sacramental Program was held last Wednesday in the hall. It was a successful night attended by both the candidates and their parents. We look forward to the Reconciliation celebration next term on Wednesday 7th May.
Baptism
Evie Raneberg was baptised last Sunday at St John the Baptist Catholic church. We congratulate her on this special occasion and keep her close to our prayers as she continues her journey of faith.
Baptism Prayer
Heavenly Father, we thank you for the gift of this child. Surround them with your love and protection, guide their steps along the path of faith, and fill their heart with your peace. May they always know your presence and find joy in following your ways.
Amen
Project Compassion
We have been selling organic apples this week to raise funds for Project Compassion. A big thank you to the Sadler family for organising this as well as our Justice and Mission Leaders for running the stall.
Tomorrow is our Walk for Water event where the students will be walking around our school grounds. This walk is to remind us that other people overseas need to walk long distances to access clean water.
We are very thankful for the efforts and contribution to causes like this. The proceeds fundraised will help many individuals from vulnerable communities. Thank you for your generosity.
Lent
As we prepare for the holidays, we approach an important time in the Church calendar, Holy Week and Easter. We will explore the story of Jesus’ Passion in class with various activities and follow the Way of the Cross, otherwise known as the Stations of the Cross.

Dear St John’s Community,
Believe it or not, we are fast approaching the end of the term. It has been great to see many students taking up the opportunities provided to them in the areas of sport. It’s really positive to see students having the right attitude and really eager to improve their skill sets. On top of this we really do have some talented students that engage in their preferred sports very well.
‘Gather Round School Footy’ has been an absolute winner for the students involved. We are now 3 rounds in with just one round remaining. The boys and girls Year 5/6 team have the ‘Bye’ next Monday night and this works well as the Year 6’s will be away on Camp. Students are now focusing their attention on the all-important and exciting ‘AFL Gather Round’ experience. Information regarding this will be communicated to you as parents as soon as confirmation of this event is emailed through.
Last Tuesday the 25th of March our 36 competitive swimmers ventured to the George Bolton Swimming Centre in Burnside for our annual SACPSSA Carnival. As a squad we didn’t know what to expect after being promoted to Section 2 for this years event. Our very first event really set the tone for the day with the ‘Boys Open Medley Team’ winning by nearly half a lap in that first race. Congratulations to the following Year 4 girls: Olivia (4G), Winne (4G), Elsie (4G), Scarlett (4G) and Stella (4PC) who were awarded with a pennant for Year Level Champions. Also, congratulations to Ethan Beresford who became an Age Group Champion for the third time throughout his primary school years. All of the swimmers that attended on the day did an excellent job and really represented our school extremely well with their sportsmanship and overall behaviour. A huge thanks to the parent volunteers on the day and to all of the parents that were present to support their child/ren on the day. On reflection, I thought it was really quite nice to be outside enjoying the carnival as a school.

With Term 2 fast approaching we are already looking ahead at the next 3 SACPSSA Carnival opportunities. During Term 2 we will be involved in the following SACPSSA Carnivals: Year 3-6 Lacrosse (20th May), Year 5/6 Basketball (13th June) and Year 3-6 Netball (Date TBC). Student PE lessons here at school will align with these carnivals in order to give our students the best possible results while participating in the carnivals.
Behind the scenes we are busy preparing for the Term 2 Winter After School Sports. We will be offering Basketball, Soccer and Netball to our students. We would really like to try and get a Volleyball team together if we could. Once organised and ready to go these sports can be found on the Qkr! App where you can go to get your child/ren registered. If you have any queries regarding these sports or any general information, please email us at: sport@stjohnpl.catholic.edu.au
All students have now received their ‘Premiers Be Active’ Booklet, so now is the time for them to put those devices down and become that little bit more active at home. Students can start the 10 week physical activity challenge as soon as they like. Once the 10 weeks has been recorded, parents complete the front section and sign off their child/ren. It is a good idea once the 10 week challenge is completed, to have your child/ren bring the booklet directly to the PE office, so your child’s efforts/results can be submitted.
Go well everyone and enjoy the remainder of Term 1.
Yours in sport
Sam Putland

St John the Baptist School provides a safe environment for all while valuing the partnership between school and home.
As a Catholic community, we welcome and value volunteers. To be able to volunteer, and/or attend at other times throughout the school year, we ask that you hold a current Catholic Police Check (parents/caregivers attending excursions, reading in class, helping in class, attending community events), a current Responding to Risks of Harm, Abuse and Neglect in Education and Care for Volunteers certificate and have completed the volunteers application package.
A Catholic Police Check for volunteers is free for our current parents and caregivers. Application Forms are available in our school office.
This process ensures we maintain a child safe environment. To avoid disappointment, we encourage you to apply for a Catholic Police Check through the school office as soon as possible.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us at the school office on 8218 3300 or email Julia Roy on jroy@stjohnpl.catholic.edu.au .

Insights may be discussed at future School Advisory Board meetings or you may be contacted personally for further follow up!

Ahead of the partial tram line closure from August 2025, several short-term weekend closures will be required across the whole tram network between May and August 2025. This is to prepare the line and ensure trams can be properly stored adjacent to the South Terrace tram stop, to continue servicing the city section of the line.
Short-term closures will take place at the following times:
To minimise inconvenience to customers during these times, substitute buses will replace tram services between:
Substitute buses will service as closely as practicable to each tram stop during the closures. The timing for these closures has been chosen over weekends so there is minimal impact on weekday peak services and special events, such as matches at Adelaide Oval.
Substitute bus timetables and bus stop locations for the weekend closures will be available in early April. This will be available on the Adelaide Metro website.
