Dear Families
As we head towards the half way mark of the first term it has been pleasing to see so many children settled into the routines of school and enjoying their new learning spaces. We look forward to the many exciting events and activities ahead this term.
This weekend Ms Tara Denton (Reception Teacher) will be getting married. At assembly on Tuesday the students wished Tara and Jack every blessing including a lovely rendition of "Going to the Chapel". We look forward to welcoming Tara back as Mrs Brookes.
Harmony Day
The Harmony Day Picnic scheduled for Sunday 19 March as per the whole school calendar has been changed. It will now be held as a school celebration on Tuesday 21 March. We invite all families to join as a school community on the courts at 8.50am for short communal prayer celebrating our inclusive multicultural community. Students will then return to their rooms and participate in class based activities around the importance of Harmony Day. Everyone is invited to wear a touch of orange as a way to acknowledge the day. This may include ribbons, socks, arm bands etc
Easter Raffle
Each family will have received a letter from the Parents and Friends about the annual Easter Raffle. Please bring your donations to school in the coming weeks so they are able to be wrapped ready for the raffle on Tuesday 4 April at 2.30pm.
Bunnings BBQ
The Parents and Friends will also be holding a BBQ at Bunnings Edwardstown on Sunday April 2. Please look out for the information from your child's class parent reps. If you are able to support on the day by volunteering time at the BBQ that would be greatly appreciated or visit Bunnings and support by purchasing a sausage or two.
Year 6 Camp
On Wednesday 22 March the Year 6 students will head to Wirraway Homestead in the Adelaide Hills for their annual school camp. They will participate in a range of activities including Horse Riding, Horsemanship, Sheep Herding, Archery, Bush Walking, Low Ropes, Shelter Building, Amazing Race and Whip Cracking. We look forward to hearing about their amazing adventures.
NAPLAN
Students in Year 3 and Year 5 will undertake NAPLAN in Weeks 7 and 8 of this term. We keep them and their families in our prayers as they complete this testing. The schedule of testing is as below:
Wednesday 15 March – Writing
Thursday 16 March – Reading
Friday 17 March – Conventions of Language
Wednesday 22 March – Numeracy
Make up tests for students that are absent will be completed across the week until Friday 24 March.
Best Wishes

First Sacramental Information Session
The first information session for the Sacraments was held on Thursday 2 March at 7pm in St John the Baptist Hall. Both parents and children attended this night in preparation for the children’s Reconciliation which will be celebrated in May.
Presentation and Commissioning
On Saturday 18 and Sunday 19 March the children receiving their Sacraments of Reconciliation, Confirmation and Holy Communion will be presented at both the Parish Masses in St John the Baptist Church. The children will be presented to the community so that the parish can continue to pray for them as they continue their journey to receive their Sacraments.
The staff of St John the Baptist will be commissioned at the 10am Mass on Sunday 19 March. This is held within the Parish Mass as it will allow the opportunity for the community to also pray for the staff as they are sent forth in mission to teach and care for the children and families within the school.
Harmony Day
On Tuesday 21 March, our school community will celebrate Harmony Day as we acknowledge the diversity and richness of cultures within our school. The day will begin with a communal prayer at 9am then followed by small activities held within the classrooms throughout the day.
Project Compassion
As we continue to walk through our Lenten journey, we remember the three important pillars: prayer, fasting and almsgiving. We have met two individuals from Project Compassion, Laxmi from Nepal and Tereesa from Australia. Learn more about their stories and how our donations help support them and their communities.

Premiers Reading Challenge
Just a reminder to parents and caregivers that students have until 8th September to complete the challenge.
It is not a race.
The rules include:
- This must be the first year that the book has been read. It cannot be listed on the PRC book form for this year if the student has read it before.
- Eight of the books chosen must have a PRC sticker on them - red for Rec-2, green for Years 3-5 and yellow for Year 6.
- Children must be reading at their appropriate level i.e. not too easy, not too hard, but just right - like the beds in the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears.
Also before you initial their form to sign off that they have read a book we ask that you talk to your student about the book and ask some questions e.g.
"Why did you choose this book? What is it about? What is your favourite part and why? How many stars out of 5 would you give it and why?"
Please enjoy engaging with your student/s about the Premier's Reading Challenge which is now in its 20th Year.
Happy reading.
