Dear Families
Term 3 New Students
We look forward to welcoming 22 new students to the school as part of the mid year Reception intake. Many of these children have been involved in the Little JB’s Transition program throughout this term and have become increasingly familiar with the school and its associated routines. Curtis Ding has been appointed to teach the students across Terms 3 and 4 of this year and has worked closely with Pat Nicou and the students over the past few weeks in preparation for next term.
Staffing News
Mary Aquilina (Curriculum ESO and School Chaplain) has been granted leave to take up a full time teaching position at St Joseph’s School, Kingswood for Terms 3 and 4 of 2024. Mary will return to her substantive position at St John the Baptist from January 2025.
Amanda Razon, our APRIM will assume the responsibilities of the School Chaplain role in Mary’s absence.
We also thank Sharee Grimshaw for her work with Year 2T throughout the first semester. Sharee is taking up a teaching role at St Therese School, Colonel Light Gardens. We wish Sharee well with this new role.
We have welcomed two new Curriculum Education Support Officers (ESO’s) to the school in recent weeks. Dana Irons and Delaney Loftus have joined our team of ESO’s and we look forward to their contribution to the life of the school and enriching the learning of our students.
Fostering Good Neighbour Relations
As a community minded school, we recognise the importance of being good neighbours. A good neighbour is respectful, considerate and helpful. We ask that we look out for our neighbours surrounding the school, respect their property and access to it and privacy. Let’s strive to create an environment where kindness, understanding and mutual support prevail. Together, we can make our school community and surrounds a better place, one friendly interaction at a time.
Morning Routine Reminder
Our school gates open at 8:30am each morning to ensure a calm, safe and organised start to the day.
For the safety and wellbeing of all our students, we ask that children are not left unsupervised before this time. We understand the morning rush can be hectic, which is why we offer Out of School Hours Care (OSHC) from 7:00am until 8:30am for families requiring early drop off options. We appreciate your cooperation and anticipated support.
As this is the final newsletter for Term 2, we would like to thank everyone for their support during this term. Students will conclude the term tomorrow at 3:00pm and we look forward to welcoming all students back to school for Term 3 on Tuesday 23rd July.
Enjoy a restful term break!
Best wishes,
Leadership Team
Over this term we have had several events and celebrations - from Catholic Education and Laudato Si week, to our St John the Baptist Feast Day and Beanies for Vinnies.
The recent Nativity of St John the Baptist was a wonderful reflection of the coming together of our parish and school. Having Mass shared with the parish at 9.30am was reflective of the vibrant community we have, with attendance from students, staff, parents and parishioners. The roles within the Mass were also shared with students, staff and parishioners through the readings, prayers and ministers.
It has been another term filled with many opportunities to see the wonderful connections within and amongst our community. Thank you all for the continued support and life you bring to our school. Wishing you a safe and restful break.

Dear St John's Community
Term 2 is quickly coming to a close, although first we have some Sport that needs to be recognised and celebrated. I would like to start by congratulating Eloise Sadler who played in the SAPSASA Netball team and represented the Airport District in Division 3. The girls went through this carnival undefeated, certainly a wonderful achievement. We wish a number of our Year 6 boys all the very best as they have begun SAPSASA Soccer Trials.
This week we have been very fortunate to have representatives from West Adelaide Football Club run AFL Auskick sessions for all of our Reception-Year 2 classes. The students have thoroughly enjoyed getting involved and have been very enthused and engaged in the sessions. Flyers have been sent home with each student and if parents would like, they can register their child online to be a part of a 6-Week Auskick Program. This program will run on Monday nights from 3:30 – 4:15pm at our school starting 5th August.
We have 32 eager students who have joined our newly-formed Run Club. Those keen runners now meet at Plympton Oval prior to school starting on a Thursday morning at 8:00am and are engaged with running activities until 8:30am. We do ask that parents of these students be present during the 30-minute session and then drop their children to school for the start of the normal day. This training will assist the students with both technique and strategy for the upcoming SACPSSA Cross Country Event which will be held in Week 3 of Term 3.
This week we took 133 students from Year 4 – Year 6 to the SACPSSA Netball Carnival. A big thank you to the staff and students from St Mary’s College who assisted us on the day with umpiring and managing of teams. Their support is very much appreciated and it was great to see their positive interactions with our students. Thank you also to our wonderful parent volunteers who assisted us on the day. This is certainly a very big carnival and we really do appreciate your time and efforts with the students. Congratulations to all of our students who played their best, represented the school well and were supportive of their team members. Many teams recorded wins on the day, but the real winners are those who came away from the day with a big smile on their face.
The time has now come for all students to please return their Premiers ‘Be Active’ Challenge booklet. If you could assist us by ensuring that your child has completed the 10 week program and then have them pass this booklet to their classroom teacher. Once we have all of the booklets returned, we will submit this data and will look to reward the students with their medal in Term 4. Thank you in advance for assisting with this process.
I hope you all have a wonderful holiday break and get the opportunity to either go away or re-charge the batteries. I certainly look forward to many more sporting moments with the students in Term 3.
Yours in Sport,
Sam Putland

St John the Baptist School provides a safe environment for all while valuing the partnership between school and home.
As a Catholic community, we welcome and value volunteers. To be able to volunteer, and/or attend at other times throughout the school year, we ask that you hold a current Catholic Police Check (parents/caregivers attending excursions, reading in class, helping in class, attending community events), a current Responding to Risks of Harm, Abuse and Neglect in Education and Care for Volunteers certificate and have completed the volunteers application package.
A Catholic Police Check for volunteers is free for our current parents and caregivers. Application Forms are available in our school office.
This process ensures we maintain a child safe environment. To avoid disappointment, we encourage you to apply for a Catholic Police Check through the school office as soon as possible.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us at the school office on 8218 3300 or email Julia Roy on jroy@stjohnpl.catholic.edu.au .
If you are due to renew your Working With Children Check and your Catholic Police Clearance this year, please note that there is a high volume of renewals due. To avoid disappointment it is advisable to do your renewal earlier as there is currently a delay in processing them.
Thank you for your anticipated support.
The updated RRHAN-EC courses were released on plink on Monday 29 April 2024 and, for most of us, completion of the online update will need to be done before 31 December 2024 when our current certificate expires. You need to complete the new RRHAN-EC online update unless you already have a current certificate with an expiry date of 31 December 2027.
To access the online update please use this link to login as ‘Non Department for Education staff login’ OR if you don’t already have a plink login, register here.
If your RRHAN-EC has already expired or you are new to education, please refer to the following guide which will help you to determine which course you need to do.
Which course is right for you?
My certificate expires on 31 December 2024 – do the online update only (takes about 2 hours).
My certificate is expired – start with the fundamentals. If you also work directly with children and young people, do the masterclass after you’ve finished the fundamentals course.
Insights may be discussed at future School Advisory Board meetings or you may be contacted personally for further follow up!
Please find link here for your suggestions.
